Chapter 2 [[Year 6]]

Veronique’s POV

I woke up the next morning and yawned clutching my pet dog, Jessie, that I couldn’t sleep without. My eyes focused onto the outfit my mommy picked out for me, a simple light pink dress with yellow flowers on it with my princess sneakers. I happily slipped it on before running across to Marie’s room, pulling the door open. She was hunched over her desk with make up smudged under her eyes and she looked like she hadn’t slept at all.

“Veronique, what the heck are you doing? It’s 9:00 AM in the morning!” she snapped at me. Before we moved, she was never like this to me. She loved playing with me and she never yelled at me.

“Marie, Marie” I said tugging her hand, “please play Barbies with me?” I begged.

“No Veronique, I’m not six anymore like you, now aller loin!” She told me.

My lower lip began to tremble, “Please? You used to play with me every morning. I miss it.” I said.

Her face softened, “I’m a little tired right now V, but I promise you we can play for a little tonight.”

“Merci!” I exclaimed before kissing her cheek and going downstairs to eat breakfast. Mommy was on the phone talking, but when she saw me coming down the steps she hung up. “Papa is off to work early, but I made you pancakes sweetheart.” She told me. I sat down at the table eagerly and started pouring powder sugar on them. “Merci beaucoup Maman!”

She sat down at the table across from me. “I just got off the telephone with Mme Fleury, the neighbor across the street, since I have a lot of unpacking to do, I’m going to drop you off there for a couple hours.”

I stared at her nervously. “All by my self Mommy?” I asked her timidly.

She smiled at my tiredly before taking me hand. “You’re going to be okay, Veronique. You’re a strong little girl.”

Marc’s POV

I sat on the bottom of my room flipping through “NHL’s Goaltender History” book. I couldn’t understand most of the words, but I loved looking at the pictures. I didn’t even look up when my Maman came in. “Marc-Andre dear, please clean up this room. The new little girl across the street, Veronique, is coming over for the day. I want you to be nice and no fighting.” She said sternly.

“But Mom, she’s a girl.”

“Marc! It doesn’t matter if she has three legs, she’s knew here and you’re going to be nice to her no matter what!” She exclaimed.

“Yes Maman.” I mumbled staring at my feet. She looked out my window, “Oh, there they are now!” She said before hustling downstairs. I looked out the window, sure enough she had a bunch of Barbies with her. I don’t like girls, they have too many cooties. I reluctantly scurried downstairs, standing behind my mom shyly. My mom pushed me out in front of her.

“Veronique, this is Marc-Andre. You to are both the same age.”

“I know, I talked to him yesterday.” She said quietly. My mom looked back and forth between the two of us, “Well, how about you go down to the playroom?” I sighed heavily, now all of my toys were going to be infected. We both went downstairs, I immediately went to my knee hockey stick. “Do you want to play?” I asked. She wrinkled her nose, “No thank you, I’ll just play with my Barbies.” She said before pulling them out of a bag and arranging them in a certain order. I rolled my eyes, girls. I just shot around for a little, before I hit the ball and it went off target. It went flying towards Veronique and it knocked the head right off one of her Barbies. “Hey! You did that on purpose!” She yelled, her face turning red. For some reason, her being mad upset me. “Um um, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to!” I told her honestly. I looked around to find something to fix it. I saw a roll of that super sticky tape that my dad always uses to fix things. “Here!” I exclaimed before ripping a piece and wrapping it around the doll’s head and neck. It looked pretty messed up, so I was expecting her to be mad. Instead she giggled, “That looks really cool!” She said. That’s when my mom came downstairs, setting two bowls of Mac N Cheese down on the coffee table. Awesome, my favorite lunch!

“I love Mac n Cheese!” Veronique blurted out, smiling. My mom smiled back, “So does Marc. Now what movie’s do you two want to watch?” She started going through our video tapes. “There’s Spidermon, Pokemon, Scooby-doo..” She told us.

“SCOOBY-DOO!” Veronique and I both yelled. I looked at her surprisd, I didn’t think of her as a Scooby-doo type of girl. “I love Scooby-Doo too!” She said sheepishly. And at that moment, I knew we were going to be friends, despite our distances. She loves Scooby-Doo and Mac n Cheese. That’s all a guy could ask in for a girl. I would just have to overlook her love of pink and teach her some hockey.. Little did we know at the time, that that day in the playroom was the beginning of something epic.

  1. "She loves Scooby-Doo and Mac n Cheese. That’s all a guy could ask in for a girl." I literally loled in my office. This story is so cute, and unique, too, since this is a real relationship. I'm interested in seeing where you go with it.
